The reason you need a professional tiler, if you don't want to make these mistakes

My completed re-tiling job on a badly installed balcony, in a Georgian house in Dublin 4.

When my client first contacted me he told me that he had contracted his landscaping gardeners to tile a veranda that led from the first floor kitchen at the back of the house, that lead down the steps to the garden.

The client told me that a large number of tiles were loose and leaking adhesive down the fascia, when it rains onto the ground floor patio.

When I lifted the tiles I discovered a very large bed of adhesive, way beyond the capabilities of a normal setting adhesive.

The adhesive was also built up to an inch thick in places, which equalled 40 mil, whereas the max thickness should be 15-20 mil. That is unless you’re purchasing specialist thick bed adhesive that can handle that amount applied to the tiles.

The landscape gardeners had made a huge (and very common!) mistake and to add insult to injury, they never applied tilers primer to the old previous tiles, which is all you need do when tiling over tiles. Again a common mistake!

Now I have another delighted client. His tile work is now completely leak proof and looks very impressive too.

No more loose tiles and no more leaking!
